BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – An Afghan boy was killed and his two older brothers were injured when he stepped on a pressure plate improvised explosive device in Mirmandab village, Nahr-e Saraj District, Helmand province, May 29.

The two injured boys were taken to a local compound by their parents and Afghan national army special forces soldiers, where the boys were treated by U.S. special operations forces medics.

The boys reported minor wounds, loss of hearing and headaches, upon their arrival to the compound. USSOF medics treated the boys and released them back to their parents.

A special operations forces team member said the boy’s uncle expressed extreme disgust over the insurgents’ IED tactics and insurgents’ continual disregard for the safety of the citizens of Mirmandab.

ANASF soldiers, along with USSOF personnel plan to talk with village elders this week to discuss this incident and future protection of the village.
