NURISTAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Members of the 1st Commando Kandak, partnered with U.S. Special Operations Forces, conducted an air assault to clear the Do’Ab District Center of insurgents, May 25.

The combined forces conducted the air assault to disrupt insurgent presence and threat, reinforce Afghan National Army and U.S. forces and restore Government of Afghanistan control to the immediate area.

The partnered forces received small arms fire upon arrival to the helicopter landing zone. They responded with close air support, which resulted in five enemy deaths. This added to the estimated 16 enemy forces who were killed in action.

Internal Communications stated the insurgents want to continue to fight, but do not have the strength because too many of their forces have been killed.

Commandos stated they will continue to observe and investigate if necessary.

No civilian casualties or structural damage was reported.
