FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Five soldiers were named distinguished honor graduates at the Special Forces Qualification Course graduation ceremony, May 19, at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C.
The distinguished honor graduate award is presented to soldiers earning the highest marks in each military occupational specialty during training.
Sgt. Phillip Watson of Fayetteville, N.C., was selected as distinguished honor graduate for outstanding achievement in Special Forces weapons sergeant training.
Staff Sgt. David Raymond of Sierra Vista, Ariz., was selected as distinguished honor graduate for outstanding achievement in Special Forces engineer sergeant training.
Sgt. Michael Reith of Muneta, Va., was selected as distinguished honor graduate for outstanding achievement in Special Forces medical sergeant training.
Staff Sgt. Brian Hett of Westchester, Ill., was selected as distinguished honor graduate for outstanding achievement in Special Forces communication sergeant training.
Capt. David Clamon of Dandridge, Tenn., was selected as distinguished honor graduate for outstanding achievement in Special Forces officer training.
These soldiers officially joined the Special Forces community upon graduation and will be assigned to one of the Army's five active-duty or two National Guard Special Forces groups.
For the last year or more these soldiers have studied core tactics and advanced specialty, survival, language and culture skills to prepare for their next assignment.
The final test for these soldiers is Robin Sage, a culmination exercise set in the fictional war-torn country of Pineland, which covers 15 North Carolina counties. During this time soldiers infiltrate Pineland to prepare citizens to fight independently as guerrilla forces to support a resistance movement.
Upon completion of Robin Sage, soldiers join the Special Forces brotherhood, earning the right to wear the Special Forces tab and don the highly coveted green beret.
The Special Forces Qualification Course is conducted by the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, the premiere training center for Special Forces, Civil Affairs and Military Information Support Operations, developing agile, adaptive special-operations Soldiers.
