BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan - About 40 runners gathered at the gate in front of Camp Vance on Bagram Air Field at 5:30 this morning.
This morning’s fun run was held in three separate locations simultaneously, Peterson Air force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Thumrait Air Base, Oman, Al Udied, Doha, Qatar. This is the first time a run like this has been coordinated according to Master Sgt. Patrick McManus, mayor for Camp Vance.
McManus, whose home station is Peterson Air force Base, hosted the run, with the assistance of members of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan headquarters. McManus said the run was made possible because of several individuals including: Tech Sgt. Nate Rubin, Deputy Camp Vance Mayor, the Camp Vance Mayor Cell and the Nunez Dining Facility staff.
“It was the perfect opportunity to get service members out together in the spirit of joint operations,” McManus said.
Runners started in front of Camp Vance and ran down Disney Drive to Entry Check Point 1 and returned to the camp.
“It was an incredibly beautiful day for the run. Although the number of runners were small, it was great to see the camaraderie,” said Maj. Kelly Cole, CJSOTF-A, Civil Affairs officer.
The fastest male runner completed the race in 18:05 and the fastest female runner completed the event in 23 minutes. The average pace was a 9-minute mile.
