KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Today’s Resolute Warrior Spotlight shines as bright as the Kandahar sun on Spc. Stephen Shreeve, a 23-year old Port Huron, Mich., native. Shreeve is currently deployed with the 1225th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Task Force Resolute to Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan.

Shreeve currently serves as a support operations specialist. His typical day is anywhere between eight to twelve hours and he works six days a week. On most days he can be found coordinating for host nation trucks that travel within his battalion’s convoys.

His tireless efforts and hard work help to ensure that the mission continues and functions effectively.

“By providing support and coordination for the host nation trucks and ironing out the kinks, my shop makes the convoys run smoother,” stated Shreeve.

In addition to accomplishing his mission here, he has also accomplished personal goals. He has improved his physical fitness, paid off bills, and most importantly, developed a deeper relationship with his wife, Florence.

“Being away from my wife has made me appreciate everything that she does for me and we have become so much closer over this deployment,” said Shreeve of his high school sweetheart turned wife, Florence.

While being away from home is hard, units can emerge as a tighter knit group with a higher level of cohesion within the ranks. Typically the quiet one, Shreeve has opened up more with his comrades and established more friendships within his unit.

“I used to be really shy before we came out here. Now, I have a few battle buddies that I hang out with,” shared Shreeve. “It’s nice to have someone to vent to and a workout buddy.”

In the coming months, Shreeve and his unit will return home and pass their mission onto a new battalion. When asked what he looks forward to most, he stated, “Just being with my wife and kids and playing in the park.”
