FORT HOOD, Texas - The Department of Defense announced the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation New Dawn May 1.
Pfc. Robert Michael Friese, 21, whose home of record is listed as Chesterfield, Mich., died April 29 in Al Qadisiyah province, Iraq, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade.
Friese joined the military in May 2009 as a M1 armor crewman and was assigned to Troop I, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, since September 2009.
Friese deployed in support of Operation New Dawn in September 2010.
Friese's awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
