    High-level insurgent leader captured in Paktia

    PAKTIA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – A high-level insurgent leader was captured when he arrived at a coalition check-point in Dand Patan district, Paktia province, April 3.

    The insurgent leader, along with another suspected associate, arrived at the check-point to discuss a retaining wall project with a civil affairs team from Special Operations Task Force – East. The insurgent leader was immediately identified as an improvised explosives device cell facilitator responsible for emplacing IEDs and coordinating attacks in the Dand Patan district for the last eight months.

    After identification was confirmed, both suspects were taken into custody by Afghan National Army Commandos.

    They are currently being held by the Afghan Border Police pending further investigation.
