KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 assigned to Kandahar consistently maintain a high quality camp in support of special operations forces.
These Seabees have been working to include fixing broken doors, leaky faucets and taking care of most anything in the camp having to do with electrical, plumbing and carpentry work.
Maintaining the camp has been no easy task, in a matter of 4 months there have been more than 60 plumbing repairs including the replacement of 300ft of sewer piping and 100 building repairs. “I have repaired a little of everything but mostly the plumping of the camp,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class (SCW) Benjamin Sanders, a utilitiesman. “I didn’t plan on just doing work related to my rate [trade skills] I actually planned on doing mostly builder type of work, but it is definitely nice to get so much experience in my rate doing the work that I have done.”
The Seabees have not only completed repairs for the camp, they have also used their construction skills to make life in the camp a little more organized and comfortable. “I provide any carpentry work that’s needed in camp” said Petty Officer 3rd Class (SCW) Nicholas Emmons, a builder. “I have built about 50 shelves and repaired 50 beds since I’ve been here.”
NMCB 3 is an expeditionary element of U.S. Naval Forces providing construction, engineering and security services in support of national strategy, Naval power projection, humanitarian assistance and contingency operations.
