    KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces killed one insurgent and detained two others during a clearing operation in Burkah district, Baghlan province yesterday.

    One of the insurgents is senior Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leader. He is the senior IMU leader and liaison to the Taliban network in Kunduz. The IMU leader maintains facilitation connections to IMU contacts around the region to coordinate logistics and personnel in Northern Afghanistan.

    Intelligence reports led the security force to an area in the Burkah district to search for the IMU leader. The joint security force approached the targeted compound and used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit peacefully. One IMU insurgent failed to comply and attempted to escape the building, approaching the joint security force armed with an AK-47 rifle, grenade, and chest rack. The joint security force killed the insurgent as he approached, and then detained a suspected insurgent who was also in the building. At another building the Joint security force detained a second suspected IMU insurgent.

    In other ISAF news throughout Afghanistan:

    North

    In the Sholgarah district, Balkh province, Afghan and coalition security forces captured an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leader yesterday. He was responsible for leading multiple IMU training camps and was involved with the facilitation and movement of fighters in and out of Samangan training camps, including fighters’ movement to Pakistan. The IMU leader is also involved in the planning of numerous attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition security forces.

    Intelligence reports led coalition forces the IMU leader’s compound where they called for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully. After initial questioning the Joint security force identified and detained the IMU leader along with three other suspected insurgents.

    South

    In the Ghorak district, Kandahar province Afghan and coalition forces captured a Taliban facilitator along with four other insurgents yesterday.

    The leader provides improvised explosive device facilitation and logistical support throughout Northern Helmand and north western Kandahar. The Taliban facilitator is responsible for procuring and distributing IED materials with other senior Taliban leaders and IED facilitators.

    Based on intelligence reports, the combined security force targeted a compound and used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully, then cleared and secured the compound to search for the targeted Taliban facilitator. After initial questioning, the security force detained three suspected insurgents. The joint security force also secured a separate compound where two more suspected Taliban insurgents were detained.

    In the Daman district, Kandahar province Afghan and coalition forces conducted a clearing operation detaining a Taliban facilitator along with two others yesterday.

    He is an IED facilitator who coordinates direct action in Kandahar city targeting Afghan and coalition security forces. He is connected to multiple Taliban leaders and facilitates the acquisition of weapons for them.

    Joint security forces followed intelligence reports to a potential location of the Taliban facilitator. The joint security forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the area. After the area was secure, the security force conducted initial questioning at the scene before detaining three suspected Taliban insurgents.

    In Shahid-e Hasas district, Uruzgan province Afghan and coalition forces confirmed the capture of Mahboob Shah during a routine operation, March 19.

    Security forces conducting a routine operation in the Khod valley captured Mahboob Shah, a facilitator and insurgent responsible for IED attacks in the area.

    Afghan and coalition forces confirmed the death of Mullah Abdul Ali during an operation in the Shahid-e Hasas district, Uruzgan province, March 18.

    During a routine operation in the Khod valley, the combined force responded to an attack by Mullah Abdul Ali which resulted in his death. Security forces recovered two weapons, ammunition and five electrical detonators.

    East

    Afghan and coalition forces captured a Haqqani Network facilitator in Bak district, Khost province yesterday.

    The coperative is a weapons facilitator who participated in direct attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.

    Based on intelligence sources, the joint coalition force tracked the facilitator to a compound in Bak district, where the combined security force used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully, and then cleared and secured the area.

    After initial questioning at the scene, the security force identified and detained the targeted HQN facilitator along with one suspected associate. The security force also discovered and destroyed one AK-47 and chest rack at the scene.

    In Sabari district, Khowst province Afghan and coalition forces captured a Haqqani Network leader yesterday. The leader is responsible for coordinating and conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

    The joint security force was alerted to the Haqqani leader’s location and moved to the targeted compound. The joint security force cleared and secured the building. After the area was secure, the security force conducted initial questioning at the scene before detaining the targeted Haqqani leader and several suspected Haqqani insurgents.

    There were no civilian casualties or collateral damage reported during this operation.
