KABUL, Afghanistan – A new road along Route 611 has seen traffic increased by 50 percent.

Coalition forces assigned to Regional Command Southwest completed a construction project along Route 611 recently.

The 18 kilometer road in the Sangin District connects villages and markets. Improvements included widening the road, improving drainage systems, laying gravel, grading and finally compacting the road surface. A separate project to improve Route 611 in Nahr-e Saraj District is also nearing completion which will result in a dependable road from Highway 1 to the Sangin-Kajaki border.

The completion of the road project will also contribute to the completion of the South East Power Supply initiative, a project designed to improve water-driven turbine energy at the Kajaki Dam to distribute power to Kandahar and Helmand provinces.
