PHOENIX—Jared Fogle, of the famous Subway commercials, donated 300 tickets to Arizona National Guard troops for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 NASCAR race at Papago Park Military Reservation, Feb. 25.

More than 100 National Guard soldiers attended the event and were given a free lunch catered by Subway while having the opportunity to speak with Jared, take pictures with him and get his autograph.

Jared and Command Sgt. Maj. Max Butler, the State Command Sergeant Major of the Arizona Army National Guard were distinguished guests and speakers during the event.

“It feels really good to be appreciated by our community for all the sacrifices we have made,” said Spc. Timothy May, with defense travel services. “It’s a really great feeling and it strengthens morale for Soldiers.”

Jared spent a lot of time talking with Soldiers about their daily lives and about the upcoming races.

“Without the hard work and sacrifice of our Soldiers, I couldn’t do this,” said Jared. “I’m excited to hand out tickets to these Soldiers and hopefully we’ll have a great race and it will be good to see everyone out there.”

During Butler’s speech he thanked Jared and other organizations there to support the Arizona National Guard, such as Vet Tix and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

“Soldiers do so much work out in the field, but there are so many organizations and people who support us and we would like to take a minute to thank of all you,” said Butler.

Soldiers were very appreciative for the NASCAR tickets that were donated and for the support that was shown at the event.

“I really had a great time and it’s great to feel so supported, this really was a great event and I look forward to spending time with my friends and family at the race,” said Mario Aguirre, the retention non-commissioned officer for Joint Force Headquarters.
