KABUL, Afghanistan – Members of the National Police Coordination Center visited the Operational Coordination Center East, or OCCR-East, at Forward Operating Base Lightning Feb. 22 in an effort to build relationships and increase coordination between regional and national security agencies.
The OCCR-East coordinates a myriad of Afghan National Security Forces at the regional level. The mission of the National Police Coordination Center is to increase the capacity of Afghan National Police forces to conduct independent operations.
Afghan police Col. Farouq, chief of current operations, National Police Coordination Center, led the Ministry of Interior delegation to Paktya province.
“I came here to visit the OCCR-East and the Afghan Uniformed Police’s 505th Zone,” said Farouq. “They have good coordination, they also have some challenges. I will bring their concerns back to the Ministry of Interior.”
The police coordination center focuses its efforts on building the Afghan Uniformed Police forces. By visiting the OCCR-East, they were able to meet with Afghan police and army members from across the province and coordinate at both the regional and provincial levels.
“Coordinating with the police coordination center will make us more effective and helps us to meet the needs of the Afghan people,” said U. S. Army Lt. Col. Michael Kelley, senior adviser, OCCR-East.
Police coordination center delegation member U.S. Army Capt. Melody Moshkowski discussed the work that the center is doing throughout the region to increase security and train security personnel.
“We want to give them the tools necessary to improve police operations within the regional coordination centers,” said Moshkowski. “We want to build the kind of police force that people can trust, respect and look to for leadership.”
