    Regional Command Southwest

CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan – The Combined Services Entertainment organization visited coalition service members here during a tour of deployed locations, Feb. 18.

The CSE organization travels throughout the world providing entertainment for Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, and in this case, American troops as well.

The night consisted of comedic relief, live music and dance presentations from the CSE dancing girls.

British Capt. Alice Salt, visits officer, Regional Command Southwest said, “I think it’s great that they’ve come over here, the comedian was great and the fact that he tailored [his act] to the American’s sense of humor I think it’s amazing.”

Breaking up the monotony and a little down time to the service members’ exhausting schedule while deployed is always a welcomed distraction.

“It’s like you could be anywhere at all watching a concert with your mates which is really nice, and you actually forget where you are, and it kind of normalizes life out here as well,” said Salt.

“These events boost morale by breaking up the monotony,” said Sgt. Nathan Sotelo, 26, from McAllen, Texas. “Every day out here is the same old thing, wearing the same cloths, seeing the same people, eating the same food so every now and then it’s good to see a concert and see some comedians.”

These entertainment events are a normal occurrence for deployed troops, and are always very well received by the service members in attendance.

“I missed the first CSE event that was here in Afghanistan, but I went to one that was in Iraq,” said Sotelo, combat camera production chief, RC(SW). “The one in Iraq was hosted by the Americans and this one is hosted by the British, but everything is still there and everyone is having a good time and having a blast.”

The coalition forces in the audience were all in agreement that the show was a complete success and look forward to the next organization to come here.

“I think we need to have more of these events especially get these events to the small forward operating bases as much as we can,” said Sotelo. “The Marines out here are kicking butt putting their lives on the line so having an hour or two to chill and relax is definitely a good thing.”
