    151st Expeditionary Signal Battalion

BAGHDAD – Members of the Electrical Maintenance Support Section of the 151st Expeditionary Signal Battalion recently visited the newly created Maintenance Facility for the Iraqi Ground Forces Command, located at Camp Iraqi Hero on Victory Base Complex.

The new maintenance facility was created to support the communications assets of the IGFC. Chief Warrant Officer 3 William Hudders and Sfc. William Bailey participated in the inspection as representatives of the 151st ESB.

The purpose of the 151st visit was to provide inputs and recommendations to the IGFC from experienced personnel with a knowledge base consistent with the maintenance requirements of a signal element. Brig. Gen. Ra’ed of the IGFC requested the inspection from Hudders and Bailey when he conducted his own visit of the 151st maintenance facilities, also located on Victory Base.

Hudders noted many positive aspects of the facility during the inspection, to include a clean, well-organized work area. He also noted that the facility had in place sufficient standard operating procedures and a work flow that would facilitate the maintenance of typical signal equipment such as radios, computers, uninterruptable power supplies, and fiber-optic cable strands.

Hudders and Bailey also inspected the spare parts inventory at the facility, as well as their on-hand test equipment such as voltmeters and spectrum analyzers. Hudders noted that having an adequate inventory of spare parts and complimentary test equipment are two necessities for any functional maintenance facility.

The relationship between the 151st and the IGFC maintenance sections is not expected to end with the recent inspection. Plans are in place for selected soldiers from the IGFC to train with the 151st EMS Section, whereby the 151st will utilize the U.S. Army “train-the-trainer” concept so that the IGFC soldiers can go back and train their fellow Iraqi soldiers on the concepts and procedures that they learn from the 151st.
