KUNDUZ, Afghanistan – German Army Lt. Col. Andreas Steinhaus relieved German Army Lt. Col. Christian von Blumroder in a change of command ceremony held on Jan. 19 for Task Force Kunduz. The mid-day ceremony was presided over by Commander, ISAF Regional Command North, German Army Maj. Gen. Hans-Werner Fritz.
During the ceremony, Fritz praised von Blumroder, referring to the time under his command as a very successful period for TF Kunduz. Fritz also said he looked forward to continued progress in the area under the strong leadership of Steinhaus.
Following the ceremony, von Blumroder reflected on what he felt was the most important reason for his success.
“We have had so many great accomplishments,” said von Blumroder during a reception attended by guests from the German, Afghan and U.S. armies. “But the basis for those accomplishments, for our success, has been the strong cooperation with the Afghan National Army’s 187th Corps in Kunduz. Our successes were achieved together, through teamwork.”
When asked what he sees in the future for Kunduz, von Blumroder said he is certain that the hard work ahead will pay off down the road.
“I think a flower is blooming here,” said von Blumroder with a smile. “We must continue to water the soil. If we continue supporting the people, completing development projects and working on our partnership with both the ANA and the people of Kunduz, I see nothing but a strong future for this province.”
