LAGHMAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, International Security Assistance Force commander, visited Laghman province Feb. 7 to speak with Laghman Provincial Gov. Iqbal Azizi about the development of a sustainable Afghan system.
During his visit to Forward Operating Base Mehtar Lam, Petraeus received a province overview briefing from the Laghman Provincial Reconstruction Team, Kansas Agribusiness Development Team and Task Force Ironman for a better insight on projects and activities conducted in Laghman province.
The general also held a coin presentation ceremony to recognize outstanding performers of Team Laghman. Following the coin presentation, the team traveled to the governor’s compound for a meeting with Azizi to discuss development in the province.
“It’s key to have governors who use a systematic approach to development,” said Petraeus while discussing the development of sustainable Afghan systems.
Azizi explained to Petraeus that he was very grateful for the PRT, ADT and TF’s partnership in building a better Laghman and that they have all exceeded his expectations.
“We want to raise your expectations and continue our progress,” said Petraeus in response to Azizi.
Laghman province was one stop for Petraeus during his tour of eastern Afghanistan, designed to gain a better understanding of the potential in the region.
