MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, NORTH CAROLINA, UNITED STATES

Story by Lance Cpl. Cory D. Polom

    II Marine Expeditionary Force

    Highlighting Cherry Point's warriors.

    Q: What’s your job?

A: My job is to provide control instructions to civilian and military aircraft within 100 miles of the air station.

Q: What’s your favorite aspect of your job?

A: My favorite part of my job is the rush I get when things get busy. At that moment I have to be on my guard and ready for anything. I control the skies, and I couldn’t beat the rush or the thrill.

Q: What’s the most challenging part?

A: The most challenging part of my job is the training of the new controllers. This job is easy when you can do everything yourself, but when training someone you have to wait until the last possible minute to help them and then make a quick fix.

Q: How does your job support the mission of 2nd MAW?

A: I provide air traffic control services to pilots who need to train. We provide them with a safe haven to train so they can stay in the fight.

Q: How does your job differ from garrison to the field?

A: The job in garrison is a lot faster paced than in the field. In the field; however, there is always that constant threat that you might be attacked.
