KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces in partnership with International Security Assistance Force and residents of lower Babur village in Arghandab District, Kandhar province, held a ceremony Jan. 22, to lay the cornerstone for the village’s new mosque.
The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by the residents of Lower Babur, the village Malik and the Arghandab District governor. The ceremonial cornerstone was laid, marking the beginning of the mosque’s construction and the first of many buildings scheduled to be built in the near future.
Construction of the mosque is expected to be complete in approximately 30 days and will be followed by the construction of residential homes in the village.
“The mosque ground-breaking ceremony signified a significant milestone in the Arghandab District’s rebuilding progress, as it will be the first building to be constructed in the village,” said Maj. Earl Brown, public affairs officer, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. “There is no doubt the momentum in the rebuild process belongs to the Afghan people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.”
