KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Police, in partnership with the International Security Assistance Force, delivered blankets and shoes to the residents of Sub District 5 of Kandahar City Jan. 6, in an effort to help villagers combat the cold winter nights.
The distribution is part of a larger project implemented by the Afghan National Police, with the assistance of the 372th Military Police Company, to improve living conditions and the quality of life for the people of Kandahar City.
“This project allowed us to provide immediate humanitarian assistance and as a result the children will be able to keep warm at night,” said 2nd Lt. Shane Kolding, platoon leader, 372th Military Police Company, assigned to 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. “Hopefully this will prevent the children from catching a cold this winter season.”
After coordination between the security forces’ of Sub District 5 and village elders, a time was set aside for supplies to be distributed among the people.
The security forces wanted to not only distribute supplies for the harsh winter but also build relationships with the local leaders as well.
Local elders volunteered to take charge of the supply distribution by assisting the security forces in organizing the villagers.
“We have a good working relationship with the government,” said one of the village elders.
Residents spent time with the Afghan and coalition personnel thanking them and discussing ways to continue to build lasting relationships.
This project is part of our continued effort to support and improve the quality of life for all Afghans, said Kolding.
