BAGHDAD - More than 1,000 Iraqi Army recruits attending Basic Combat Training with the 1st Battalion, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Regional Guard Brigade are participating in a weapons qualification Dec. 26 – 30 at the Baphstian, Sulaynamiyah and Zawita Training Centers.
Iraqi soldiers will fire with AK-47s to qualify in accordance with Iraqi Security Forces qualification standards. United States advisors will oversee the RGB basic combat instructors as they conduct the range fire and assist the Soldiers with the qualifications, by sighting, grouping and zeroing the weapons.
The range fire is a training opportunity for soldiers to practice firing their assigned weapons, increasing their proficiency.
A majority of the soldiers have yet to fire the weapon, and will now learn to follow correct sighting, grouping and zeroing procedures, said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Danny Dulay with Iraqi Training and Advisory Mission-Army. “This is a very crucial experience for them as they are training to become qualified as Iraqi Security Force soldiers.”
