The Headquarters Battalion Motorcycle Club rolled on their annual ride from Kaneohe Bay to Honolulu to deliver toys to Toys for Tots Dec. 15. After the club’s monthly meeting and the riders took the Pali Highway across the island to drop their donated toys at the official drop off center in Honolulu.
Sgt. William W. Patnode, operations and training administrator, Headquarters Bn., organized this year’s ride.
“This particular ride was a great chance for us to incorporate volunteering for the community while reinforcing the safety procedures we discussed earlier.”
He added that these rides following their monthly meetings is just one of the benefits of being in the club.
This year’s drive is still about 9,000 toys short of its goal of collecting 45,000 toys, all of which go to make the holidays brighter for Hawaii's less fortunate children. The greatest need this year is for gifts for 7-11 year-old girls, and 11-18 year-old teenage girls, according to the Toys for Tots Foundation. Every toy and dollar collected in Hawaii benefits local children.
Overall, Toys for Tots Hawaii has collected more than 680,000 toys and nearly $400,000 since 1996.
