MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Combat Logistics Battalion 13, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, hosted a Christmas party to spread the holiday spirit to the families, friends, Marines and sailors here, Dec. 3.
“This is the last chance that all of us get to be together before we split up and deploy with the [13th Marine Expeditionary Unit],” said Gunnery Sgt. Bruce Villasenor, company gunnery sergeant for Headquarters Company, CLB-13, CLR-1, 1st MLG.
Scheduled to deploy with the 13th MEU early next year, everyone seemed to enjoy their time at the party, said Villasenor, from San Diego, while observing a room full of laughter and excitement.
“We always have fun in these types of event,” he said. “It’s such a great way to bring everyone together, especially for our kids, this is all for them. They’re all receiving gifts from Santa. Even adults like me and my wife have a share in the presents. Everyone walks out of here with presents in their hands.”
Besides the food and drinks that were provided, there were many other activities for Marines and their families to do, he explained. Santa had his own room to greet the children. An arts and crafts table was set up for everyone to create their own masterpiece. They also had a snowball fight with volleyballs. By the end of the night a lottery drawing took place for various presents provided by the battalion.
“I had a great time. My daughters are going to love it when they see me bring home a brand new bike,” said Staff Sgt. Michael Rubio, operational chief with CLB-1, 1st MLG, a guest at the event.
Rubio, from Smithville, Texas, was one of many lucky winners of the drawing. He chose a pink bike to bring home to his daughters.
“I’m thankful that everyone is here,” said Villasenor. “This is how the families get to know each other. If a unit doesn’t do things like this for their Marines and sailors, they’re missing out. As for my present, I’m going to wait until I get home to open it. It’s nice to end a great night with a mystery.”
