ORUZGAN, Afghanistan – More than 500 Afghans celebrated Eid al-Adha for the first time in many years in Oshay village Nov 15-19.
Afghans were afforded the opportunity to celebrate the holiday due to the improved security in the region provided by the Afghan and coalition forces operating in the area.
The local elders in conjunction with the Afghan National Police Chief and the District Chief contributed funds to hire four bands from Kandahar to play music for the celebration. The bands provided music for the duration of the four-day event.
Due to the decreased insurgent activity in the area the numbers of shops in the bazaar have more than doubled.
During the celebration, a number of temporary shops and vendors were also established, accommodating the influx of Afghans from the surrounding area that attended the celebration.
