BISMARCK, N.D. - The United States Cross-Country Snowmobile Racing Association, based out of Minto, N.D., has given all soldiers and Airman currently serving in the National Guard an opportunity to show off their skills in the snow. All entrant fees are waived for the National Guard participants.
USCC Snowmobile Racing Association, and the largest cross-country snowmobile racing organization in North America, is entering its ninth year and has seen membership and race entries grow each year.
Earlier this fall, the National Guard signed on as the title sponsor for the USCC 2010-2011 snowmobile racing season. This circuit is known as "The USCC National Guard Cross-Country Snowmobile Championship." In conjunction with this sponsorship, the USCC Snowmobile Racing Association has announced a National Guard class at select USCC and USCC-East Snowmobile Racing Association events where Guard members can come and experience cross-country snowmobile racing firsthand.
Members of the National Guard who wish to participate in a USCC Snowmobile race in North Dakota will have a chance to do so at one of four selected National Guard class events this winter.
Grand Forks, N.D., has been selected for one of these events, along with Munising, Mich., Warroad, Minn., and also with the USCC-East event in Madawaska, Maine. At these events, National Guard members will be able to participate in the event at no cost to them but will need to supply their own snowmobile and riding gear. The Grand Forks event, called the "Grand Cities 100," will take place on Jan. 2, 2011.
