KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – The district governor and area citizens, along with Afghan National Army Special Forces and their coalition forces partners, uncovered weapons and explosives in Kandahar province’s northern Shah Wali Kot District, Nov. 25.

Following discussions with local citizens, the district governor, Haji Obidullah, led the partnered force to a nearby compound where they discovered 300 pounds of ammonium nitrate, four Kalashnikov assault rifles, one machine gun and additional explosives-making components.

Soldiers from ANASF and Special Operations Task Force-South assisted in removing and destroying the threat of explosives. The owner of the compound containing the explosives was then escorted by local citizens to the district center.

“Obidullah is an active governor, and the people of Shah Wali Kot are following his lead in helping push insurgent violence out of the area,” said Lt. Col. Mike Sullivan, Special Operations Task Force – South operations officer.

No civilian casualties or property damage resulted from these operations.
