KABUL, Afghanistan – The Panjshayr Provincial Reconstruction Team recently surveyed a local river for the potential construction of a micro-hydro-electric generator in order to supply many nearby villages with power.
“One advantage of the micro-hydro is the demand for power is highest in the summer because people are running air-conditioning units,” said Daniel Fredrikson, Panjshayr reconstruction team engineer. “That’s when it would be able to produce the most amount of power.”
At the approval of village elders, engineers from the reconstruction team took a walk along the river to find the most suitable place to build the micro-hydro generator. Once a suitable location is determined the generator would be built within the year and provide power for hundreds of nearby homes.
