PARWAN, Afghanistan - Owners of livestock residing in Jan Qadam village, Bagram District, Parwan province, received veterinary care Nov. 13 using veterinary and medical assets from Special Operations Task Force-East.
SOTF-East veterinary and medical operations personnel performed a veterinary assessment of upper Jan Qadam village as a diagnostic check to determine basic herd health and canine care.
This veterinary health assessment was performed on more than a dozen cattle and one canine.
“The animals reviewed were estimated to be approximately between six months to 5-years-old,” said Capt. Greg McDermott, SOTF-East veterinarian.
“I am pleased with the overall health of animals that were evaluated in the village,” added McDermott. “I noticed the animals that were checked had no signs of lice, had proper weight, lacked external parasites and had excellent general health.”
SOTF-East medical and veterinary operations have also used this assessment to plan the ordering of supplies, vitamins, and de-worming medications for future veterinary operations, as the upper Jan Qadam has more than 80 livestock and canines.
Owners of livestock in the village were satisfied with this veterinary inspection that took place.
One villager said that they were happy to see this amount of care provided because there is a lack of accessible veterinary care in the village.
