KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan National Police unveiled a new initiative called “The Guardians of Peace Program” in Tagab District, Kapisa province, Monday.

The program is designed to give financial rewards to Afghans who participate in Afghan National Security Force security initiatives.

Bacha Gul, the Tagab District chief of police, held a shura at the Tagab District center to inform and educate local elders.

Following the shura, Gul along with several of his policemen, distributed cards and signs to visitors and vendors at the Tagab market during market day. Approximately 2,500 people attended the market and listened to the chief of police announce the formation of the program.

The chief implored the people to call the number on the cards and signs if they saw anything that might injure or kill Afghan security forces or innocent Afghan civilians, to include emplacing improvised explosive devices or setting up ambushes.

As Gul and his policemen moved to hand out the cards, they were mobbed by Tagab residents, something Gul was excited to see.

“This [program] will make it safer for the people of Tagab District by their own work,” Gul said. “The people can help the police to arrest the terrorists that put their children and jobs in danger.”
