MURRIETA, Calif. – The city of Murrieta hosted its 8th Annual Veterans Day Parade here, Nov. 11. Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 5, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, joined the parade with their logistics vehicles to inform
and showcase their equipment to the public as a sign of respect for those who have served.
“We’re presenting our equipment in the parade, as well as setting up two static display stations so everyone can see what we se to accomplish our missions,” said Sgt. Luis A. Almonte, motor ransport chief with CLB-5, CLR- 1, 1st MLG. “This is our chance to give back to our veterans for what they’ve done for us.” The Marines brought four vehicles to the parade, two 7-ton trucks and two Mine Resistant Ambush
Protected All Terrain Vehicles , said Almonte, 24, from Danbury, Conn. A 7-ton and an MAT-V were part of the parade itself, the other two were placed by the end of the parade as static displays.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for veterans like me to see that people areo supportive of what we did,” said retired Airman Raymond Smith, who served from 1950-1959. “This is the fifth time I’m riding in the parade and it’s a delight to see that it’s getting bigger and bigger.” Veterans from the past and present proudly wore their uniforms around town to be recognized for their service. They gather together in the parade to show their pride
of being the heroes of the past and present generations.
“Regardless of who you are and what you do, the sacrifices the veterans made are the reason why [we’re] still here,” said Almonte. “This is their day and we must pay
our respects.”
