    Story by Sgt. Joshua Dodds

    130th Public Affairs Detachment

ZEBINCE/ZEBNICE, Kosovo - Multinational Battle Group East's Task Force Medical Falcon conducted a medical seminar on anesthesiology at the Cultural House in Zebnice/Zebnice, Nov. 8, as part of a program known as "Grand Rounds."

Capt. Mark Mackey, Austin, Texas, a certified registered nurse anesthetist, gave a thorough presentation on history and new advances in anesthesiology.

Mackey, an Army Reserve Soldier in the 75th Combat Support Hospital, has spent eight years in uniform, and as a civilian works at Austin Heart Hospital. He prepared the presentation with the help of his civilian and military real life experience.

"Understanding roles of an anesthetist through sharing techniques at meetings like this, with the end result of meeting our goal which is helping patients," is what makes these seminars so valuable, Mackey said.

"It is great to see the local communities together and working together for progress as an integrated medical community," Mackey said.

"Grand Rounds" is an opportunity for local medical professionals to meet with specialists who work at Camp Bondsteel. Doctors and technicians from around the municipality of Novoberde/Novo Brdo, Kosovo were in attendance, along with Xhemadl Novoberdaliu, health director for the municipality.

Novoberdaliu said the subject was interesting as some of the methods discussed are among those that the doctors and nurses have been using.

"What is most important is that the doctors and technicians learned from this seminar and that they will implement what was learned," he said.

Vlainka Stojanovic, Makresh I Larte/Gornji Makres, Kosovo, a medical technician, was pleased to be a part of the "Grand Rounds" program.

"It was good to attend to learn new technology; we have knowledge on this, but it is good to have these medical seminars," Stojanovic said.

This is the first external "Grand Rounds" since a cardiological seminar held at Kacaniku/Kacanik, Kosovo in July. Weekly "Grand Rounds" have been scheduled on Camp Bondsteel since August.
