129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Assumes Responsibility of all Logistical Support in Southwestern Afghanistan's Helmand Province

FORWARD OPERATING BASE LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan – The 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Fort Campbell, Ky., currently assigned to the 43d Sustainment Brigade, Fort Carson, Colo., held a transfer of authority ceremony at Forward Operating Base Leatherneck in southwestern Afghanistan’s Helmand province Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010.

Col. Thomas A. Rivard, commander of the 68th CSSB, 43d Sustainment Brigade, from Fort Carson, Colo., relinquished command of all logistical support in southwestern Afghanistan to Lt. Col. Daniel K. Rickleff, commander of the 129th CSSB.

“I am grateful to have the privilege to serve, lead, and command America’s finest men and women of the 129th CSSB in combat,” said Rickleff.

The “Drive the Wedge” Battalion uncased its colors signifying the beginning of their next mission, supporting the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Col. Edward Daly, commander of the 43d Sustainment Brigade, Ft. Carson, Colo., presided over the transfer of authority ceremony at FOB Leatherneck.

“I would like to thank the 68th CSSB for their true professionalism and dedication during the relief in place and transfer of authority, you should be very proud of your accomplishments and the irreversible momentum you have established in the Helmand province,” said Rickleff.

This deployment to southwestern Afghanistan will be the battalion’s fourth deployment in just over eight years.

“I pledge to you that the soldiers of the 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion will work tirelessly to build on the relationships you have developed and the anticipatory and predictive logistics you provided to all supported customers,” said Rickleff.

The 129th CSSB is made up of five subordinate companies from the regular Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard, currently providing transportation, maintenance, and supply support throughout Helmand province.
