Afghan forces conducted several successful medical operations in Helmand, Badghis and Herat provinces Oct. 2 - 7.
Members of the Afghan national security forces and coalition forces supported three medical clinics aimed at providing quality health care to members of the Afghan populace. On an education front, ANA leadership was also instrumental in providing a medical seminar where medical professionals taught health care practices to Afghan students.
The first clinic was conducted by ANA special forces in the Nahr-e-Sarj District of Helmand province last week. ANASF received support from Coalition forces in the form of security while the ANASF primarily provided the medical care.
That same day in the vicinity of Nahr-e-Sarj, coalition forces conducted a medical clinic which provided Afghan villagers an opportunity to access a safe, secure medical facility to receive treatment since some do not have the means to get to Sangin District. Security for the medical clinic was provided by coalition forces.
The following day, ANA units partnered with coalition forces in the Bala Morghab District of Badghis province, spearheading a three-day MEDSEM. Coalition forces assisted in setting up the seminar, but the ANA coordinated and executed the entire seminar. The seminar hosted a total of 29 students, who participated in over 12 hours of classroom and practical application instruction.
The MEDSEM educated the Afghan students on basic public health care practices in their local villages and supported the continued improvement of the overall public health care system.
Two days later, Afghan National Army commandos and ANA took the lead in conducting another medical clinic in the Adraskan District of the Herat province. Coalition forces assisted villagers as they made their way to the clinic and supported Afghan forces with security. The commando medics were responsible with providing medical prescreening and assessments for all the patients.
