CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan – The Marines and sailors of Combat Logistics Regiment 15 (Forward), 1st Marine Logistics Group (FWD), held a ceremony, Sept. 27, to celebrate the accomplishments of the 10.1 deployment and to mark the beginning of 10.2.
The Marines of 10.1 set the stage for their replacements, who officially took charge of the responsibilities during the ceremony.
The first part of CLR-15 (FWD) deployed to Afghanistan in March in support of the International Security Assistance Force.
“When they first got out here, there was almost nothing,” said Sgt. Maj. Carri S. Belle, incoming sergeant major for CLR-15 (FWD), “They really built up a lot.”
When the 10.1 Marines arrived, they had a lot of work ahead of them. They spent countless hours transporting supplies, fixing vehicles and providing medical support to improve the readiness of I Marine Expeditionary Force (FWD).
“They did phenomenal,” said Lt. Col. Michael J. Murchison., incoming commander of CLR-15 (FWD), of the 10.1 Marines. “They set up such a smooth turnover for us.”
The outgoing commander, Lt. Col. Kevin J. Stewart, is proud of his Marines and their continuous hard work throughout the seven-month deployment.
“It’s been a privilege,” said Stewart, “an absolute privilege to serve with them; I couldn’t have asked for a finer team.”
The Marines of 10.1 made the best of their Afghanistan deployment, and they impressed their highest leader with their hard work.
“They got big shoes to fill,” said Brig. Gen. Charles L. Hudson, commanding general of 1st MLG (FWD), in his speech during the ceremony. “I know that the Marines and sailors are more than capable.”
