STEWART AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, N.Y.-The New York Air National Guard's 105th Airlift Wing, located at Stewart Air National Guard Base, outside Newburgh, New York , ranked first in participation among Air National Guard units and fifth across the entire Department of the Air Force during its first Air Force Assistance Fund campaign.
The AFAF is an annual Air Force campaign that raises money for four official Air Force charities providing emergency financial assistance, education support and other aid to Airmen and their families facing hardship.
Members of the 105th raised $8,642.88 from 180 unique donations between April 27 and July 31, 2026, reaching 60% of the $14,360 goal set by the Air Force Personnel Center. In addition to the wing’s ranking in participation, the 105th also ranked first in the Air National Guard and 15th across the Air Force in fundraising amount.
“That 60% raised made a big impact for those Air Force families in need, and that’s a win,” said 2nd Lt. Thomas Pedrosa, the campaign’s installation project officer.
Pedrosa and Master Sgt. Adrian DeSantiago, 105th Comptroller Flight financial management technician and assistant installation project officer, organized the effort with 17 unit-level project officers and 25 key workers across the wing’s five groups and air wing staff. The team briefed volunteers, staffed education booths during regularly scheduled drills, answered questions about authorized fundraising activities and worked with Air Force fundraising officials to correct misdirected donations and close out the campaign.
Pedrosa said the result showed Stewart ANGB is more than an installation.
“It’s a community of Airmen from all walks of life who are always there for each other when someone needs support,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s one team, one fight, and Stewart ANGB embodies that motto.”
Pedrosa recommended that future campaigns add unit competition with awards for highest donations and participation rates, host larger wing-wide events, expand the use of printed flyers and time any extension requests around regularly scheduled drills, to further develop the program and increase donation opportunities.
Air Force fundraising officials confirmed the final total and provided closeout reports. Donations made through Dec. 31, 2026, will still count toward the 105th’s campaign totals.
