FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — From installation security to healthcare and network access, military ID cards are the critical key to daily operations — making the Fort Leonard Wood ID Card Facility a vital hub for readiness.
According to Polly Guthrie, Military Personnel Division interim chief with the Directorate of Human Resources, in 2025, Fort Leonard Wood’s ID Card Facility served more than 27,000 service members, civilians, retirees and dependents.
“For 2026, we have already served24,895 customers,” Guthrie said. “The ID Card Facility issues Common Access Cards and Next Generation Uniformed Services Identification Cards.”
In addition to making ID cards, the office’s staff also maintains the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, commonly known as DEERS.
“The ID card and DEERS DHR employees work very hard on a daily basis to take care of the large volume of customers providing forward facing excellent customer service,” Guthrie said.
The ID Card Facility is located in Room 2101 on the second floor of Bldg. 470.
The facility’s hours of operation are walk-ins from 8 to 10 a.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and appointments from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. Tuesdays are reserved for trainees and appointments on Thursdays are from 8 a.m. to noon.
“The facility closes to customers at noon for system maintenance, administrative tasks, and training,” said Dwight Wilson, Human Resources Services Branch chief.
Wilson noted a standard card issue can take about 10 minutes, while the time for a DEERS enrollment varies on how many dependents are being enrolled for the customer.
ID Card Facility staff report thatthe most common hurdle for customers is arriving without the proper identificationrequired to complete their transactions.
“To receive an ID card, there must be two forms of photo identification presented at the time of issuance of an ID card,” Guthrie said. “To better serve our customer base more efficiently, having the two forms of ID in hand ensures shorter wait times.”
