AULI, India — U.S. Army Soldiers and Indian Army Soldiers conducted a counterterrorism building-clearing demonstration Sept. 16 during Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2026, building toward the exercise's upcoming Field Training Exercise portion.
The demonstration featured Indian Army snipers, Army canines and a robotic dog, giving U.S. Soldiers the opportunity to observe and interact with the equipment and personnel used during the operation.
Yudh Abhyas 2026 is a bilateral exercise between the U.S. Army and the Indian Army designed to enhance small-unit capabilities and interoperability between the two forces. The exercise's Field Training Exercise portion includes counter-IED, counter-UAS and sniper operations alongside mountain warfare and cold-weather training at Auli's high altitude.
Demonstrations like the counterterrorism building-clearing operation give U.S. and Indian Army Soldiers a platform to exchange tactics, techniques and procedures directly, reinforcing the interoperability both forces are building throughout YA26. As the exercise progresses into the Field Training Exercise, U.S. and Indian infantry units will operate together within the same battalion structure, making foundational training events like this one critical to building the trust and shared procedures both forces will rely on once combined operations begin.
Yudh Abhyas 2026 is the 22nd iteration of the annual U.S. Army Pacific-sponsored bilateral exercise and is scheduled to conclude Sept. 28 with a formal closing ceremony.
