U.S. Army Capt. Genevieve Weldon, MA, RD, LD, CSSD, CSCS, Army Service Lead for the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) Nutrition and Diet Therapy course, was recently awarded the 2026 Commission on Dietetic Registration Doctoral Scholarship through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation.
The $10,000 scholarship, funded by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, supports registered dietitian nutritionists pursuing doctoral education in dietetics or a dietetics-related field.
Capt. Weldon is completing a doctorate in leadership with a concentration in health and human performance at Concordia University Chicago. Her doctoral research examines the relationships among chronotype, psychological resilience, and performance in Army advanced initial training Soldiers. Her research explores how individual differences in sleep-wake preference and resilience relate to performance within the demanding environment of military training.
For Capt. Weldon, the doctorate represents more than an academic credential. She is using the program to broaden her understanding of the interconnected factors that influence human performance while strengthening her ability to lead, educate, translate research, and develop other professionals in the field.
That professional development is already extending beyond her dissertation research. As a member of the Women’s Performance Working Group, Capt. Weldon and fellow Army dietitian, Capt. Erica Jarmer, are leading the development of a three-part evidence review series addressing women’s health and performance across major life stages: young adulthood through midlife, pregnancy and postpartum, and perimenopause and menopause.
Each evidence review is paired with practical tools designed to help dietitians translate current research into practice, including a life-stage-specific Nutrition Rx Calculator, ADIME (Assessment, Diagnosis, Intervention, Monitoring, and Evaluation) documentation templates, and case studies that allow practitioners to apply the evidence and tools. Capt. Weldon has been invited to present the group’s work at the DoD Food and Nutrition and Dietary Supplements meeting Oct. 15 in Bethesda, Maryland.
The work reflects how Capt. Weldon is applying her doctoral education to her established career in military nutrition and human performance. In her current role at METC, she helps develop the next generation of military nutrition and diet therapy technicians. Through continued research, education, and professional collaboration, she aims to strengthen her leadership in human performance while developing others and contributing practical, evidence-based resources that can improve service member health, readiness, and performance across the force.
