Brunson, Jin review frontline posture at DMZ guard posts
DEMILITARIZED ZONE, South Korea — U.S. Army Gen. Xavier Brunson, commander of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea, and Republic of Korea Air Force Gen. Jin Young-seung, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited guard post and general outpost units along the eastern front to review the operational situation in the Demilitarized Zone and inspect frontline security and operational readiness.
At the guard post, Brunson and Jin reviewed recent Democratic People's Republic of Korea military activities in close proximity to the Military Demarcation Line and the unit’s immediate response posture.
Jin expressed concern over recent DPRK military activity near the MDL. Noting that dense foliage and frequent fog can create challenges for security operations during this period, Jin directed troops to “closely analyze even the slightest indicators to prevent an enemy surprise attack and, in the event of an enemy provocation, respond decisively and bring the operation to a conclusion on the ground.”
“The Armistice has preserved stability on the Korean Peninsula for more than seven decades, but maintaining that stability requires readiness,” Brunson said. “Standing here together demonstrates the strength of our Alliance and our shared commitment to defend the Republic of Korea.”
Brunson and Jin reaffirmed that the ROK-U.S. combined defense posture remains strong and emphasized the importance of continuously strengthening the capabilities, readiness and interoperability necessary to maintain credible deterrence and respond effectively to evolving security challenges.
Jin then visited a general outpost battalion, where he inspected the unit’s security operations systems and overall response posture.
Considering the threats currently facing the force, Jin emphasized the need to “maintain realistic operational capabilities and readiness that enable all personnel to act immediately as one team, while maintaining operational discipline and a firmly established chain of command.”
He also encouraged the service members who are “devoting themselves to the defense of the nation at the most rugged front lines, focused solely on the enemy,” urging them to “take pride and fulfillment in knowing that your dedication protects the daily lives of our people.”
The joint visit by Brunson and Jin to the frontline units was conducted to deter enemy provocations along the MDL and assess military readiness.
