ELKO, Nev. — Members of the Nevada Army National Guard Honor Guard provided ceremonial support during the dedication of Elko National Cemetery on Sept. 4, helping mark the establishment of Nevada’s first Department of Veterans Affairs national cemetery.
The Honor Guard represented Nevada’s military community as veterans, families and officials gathered to recognize the future burial site.
Located at 3602 Jennings Way in Elko, the 15.37-acre cemetery will accommodate casketed burials, in-ground cremation burials and urn placements in columbarium niches.
Developed through the National Cemetery Administration’s Rural Initiative, the cemetery will give qualifying Nevada Guardsmen and other rural veterans in northeastern Nevada closer access to VA burial benefits. Once fully developed, it is expected to serve more than 3,705 veterans and their eligible spouses and children within a 75-mile radius.
