CAMP ZAMA, Japan - Command teams across Camp Zama visited several installation support representatives during a “Command Team Recon” walking tour Sept. 2.
Starting at the Armed Forces Wellness Center, the leaders walked as a group across the installation to key agencies — including Army Community Service,
the Religious Support Office and the Resiliency and Restoration Center — to learn about available resources, referral processes and available services.
Lt. Col. Yosef Fufa, installation director of Psychological Health, said he and his team structured the event as a physical terrain walk because most Camp Zama resources sit within a 10- to 15-minute walk from where Soldiers live and work.
Navigating the routes firsthand allowed the participants to gain a clear spatial understanding of agency locations, strengthening their ability to connect Soldiers, civilians and families with appropriate support before everyday stressors escalate.
“Having gotten familiarized with the available resources is generally helpful and helps set realistic expectations of how Soldiers and their families can receive help during their time here in Japan," Fufa said, reflecting on the positive feedback he received from command teams who said they gained a clearer roadmap for how to support their personnel.
