PAE SSP Workforce Coaching Nominations Sought for Sept. 10 Deadline
Investing in the workforce is a top priority for Portfolio Acquisition Executive (PAE) Strategic Systems Programs (SSP). Through its workforce development programs, the command develops the people working at the forefront of strategic deterrence, delivering potent, reliable, and uninterrupted capabilities to America’s warfighting Navy.

The PAE SSP Coaching Program, a central pillar in the command’s workforce development strategy, does exactly that. This opportunity is available to members at all levels of the PAE SSP workforce, and participants are paired with dedicated coaches in a program that is specifically tailored to their level of experience.

“Giving the workforce these opportunities to improve does ensure the command remains in peak condition, but it also has the effect of demonstrating just how valuable PAE SSP considers its workforce,” said Torrie MacCutcheon, head of the section responsible for PAE SSP’s Workforce Development programs. “People are more confident when their development and their futures are being invested in.”

Yvonne Hanley, Finance Division Head at Strategic Weapons Facility, Pacific, recently graduated from the senior level of the coaching program.

“To begin with, they have you take a couple of assessments, and then you and your coach conduct an in-depth review of those assessments to create a personal growth plan,” Hanley said. “You take what you learned about yourself through your assessment results to identify professional goals and outline a plan to execute those goals.”

Hanley says that, while the coaching program does benefit participants on an individual level, the benefits that she witnesses on a team level are the most significant to her.

“I speak the same language now as my peers and my boss who have also been through the program,” Hanley said. “We communicate at the same level; we have a shared dialogue and an understanding that we simply didn’t before.”

“PAE SSP is big on developing the people that we already have,” MacCutcheon said. With specific programs designed for developmental, mid-level, and senior-level members of the workforce, this program is a valuable experience for anybody, and all employees at PAE SSP are encouraged to apply. Nominations for the next round of coaching are due Sept. 10.

“I think many people don’t quite grasp how much you can truly get out of these programs,” MacCutcheon said. “Everybody should take advantage of it.”

“The program far exceeded my expectations,” Hanley said. “I want to stress the value of these programs and how beneficial it is to have multiple layers of an organization going through this program. It brings how we operate on a day-to-day basis to the next level. From an organizational standpoint, that’s the most transformational part.”

PAE SSP is responsible for sustaining the strategic weapon system (SWS) on the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) and supporting the integration of the D5LE weapon system on the new Columbia-class SSBNs. Looking to the future, PAE SSP is actively modernizing the sea-based leg of the nuclear triad through the development of the D5LE2 SWS and pioneering regional strike capabilities of the future through development of the nuclear-armed sea launched cruise missile (SLCM-N) and the non-nuclear hypersonic conventional prompt strike system (CPS).
