Yokosuka, Japan (July 30, 2026) – NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka (FLCY) celebrate a significant milestone in naval leadership as Retail Services Specialist Chief David “George” Bell was promoted to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer during a ceremony onboard Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka.
A native of Chicago, IL, Senior Chief Bell’s advancement marks more than 18 years of dedicated naval service. During the ceremony, In a moment rich with tradition, his teammates and friends placed the new Senior Chief combination cover on his head and pinned the fouled anchor insignias to his collars as colleagues and fellow Sailors looked on.
Expressing his gratitude, Bell reflected on the achievement. “Being promoted to Senior Chief is a milestone I’ll never take for granted,” he said, noting that it represents the hard work of the amazing Sailors he has led and the leaders who invested in him. He added that he is ready to continue to serve in a greater capacity in the next command.
The ceremony also served as a powerful symbol of mentorship and Navy heritage. In a time-honored gesture, Senior Chief Bell passed the Chief anchors he had received from his own mentors to two Petty Officers First Class. This tradition signifies the passing of wisdom, entrusts the next generation of leaders with a "good luck charm" for their own journey, and reinforces the continuity of the Chief's Mess.
