FORT KNOX, Ky. — V Corps welcomes Lt. Gen. Thomas M. Feltey as its new commanding general during an assumption of command ceremony, Aug. 31, 2026, where he also received a promotion to Lieutenant General.
In his speech, Feltey thanked multiple generations of leaders for their dedication and laid out his objectives for the Victory Corps.
“It is an honor to lead Victory Corps as we continue to build upon this legacy of readiness and commitment,” said Feltey. “Alongside our allies and partners, we will remain a forward-deployed, lethal and credible force, steadfast in our dedication to assuring our partners and deterring aggression in the European theater.”
During the ceremony, Gen. Christopher C. LaNeve, acting Chief of Staff of the Army, addressed Soldiers and distinguished guests about Feltey, his family and V Corps.
“Tom’s career marks him as a truly ideal choice to command V Corps,” said LeNeve. “During his time as Commanding General of 1st Cavalry Division, Tom deployed to Poland. He could see and understand the operation and strategic environment of V Corps firsthand.”
LaNeve then presented the ceremonial colors to Feltey, a symbolic gesture that marks the formal transfer of authority.
Feltey previously commanded the 1st Cavalry Division and assumed command during its deployment to Eastern Europe.
While forward deployed in Eastern Europe, the 1st Cavalry Division worked alongside V Corps and NATO allies to deter adversaries and sustain warfighting readiness. Throughout his tenure with the 1st Cavalry Division, Feltey led modernization efforts to restore maneuver and advance the lethality of our armored formations.
Feltey assumes command with firsthand experience that provides a practical understanding of the relationships, training and interoperability required to build combat-credible forces and maintain readiness across the region.
“They’ve led the way in experimentation in multinational training exercises, interoperability most important with our NATO allies,” said LaNeve. “The Corps forward command post in Poznan provides continuous forward deterrence to any potential adversaries.”
V Corps supports the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative by integrating allied forces, plans and capabilities along NATO’s eastern flank. Through forward posture, collective training and modernization, the corps helps strengthen a layered, interoperable defense that improves readiness, accelerates decision-making and reinforces NATO’s ability to deter and defend. Feltey’s experience leading a division that trained and operated alongside V Corps and Allied formations positions him to continue advancing those priorities.
As the senior, tactical headquarters in the contact layer, V Corps provides training, increases readiness, and retains operational control of assigned and allocated units in order to compete across the competition continuum alongside Allies and Partners. As the new Commanding General of V Corps, Lt. Gen. Feltey will have his first major opportunity to observe multi-echelon execution throughout Avenger Triad 26, using the exercise to validate critical warfighting capabilities, enhance interoperability with NATO allies, and drive decisions for the Corps future readiness.
