    FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A Soldier assigned to the 19th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, died on Fort Knox, Ky., on Sept. 1, 2026, due to injuries sustained from an incident at an on-post motor pool.

    Staff Sgt. Deonte Lamar Davis, a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, was a Bridge Crewmember assigned to Fort Knox since 2024. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.

    “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Staff Sgt. Davis,” said Col. Jeff Burges, commander of the 20th Engineer Brigade. “He was an outstanding Soldier and leader, and will be deeply missed by all his family, friends and fellow soldiers across the formation.”

    The circumstances remain under investigation by the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division as part of the Army’s standard process for investigating Soldier fatalities.
