MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va.— Marine Corps University unveiled its inaugural Esteemed Global AlumniWall ofHonor during a ceremony July 30.
The Esteemed Global Alumni Wall of Honor establishes a lasting tradition at MCU, recognizing international graduates whose careers demonstrate extraordinary service, leadership, and commitment to multinational cooperation.
Brig. Gen. Matthew W. Tracy, president of MCU and commanding general of Education Command, joined Gen. Eric M. Smith, commandant of the Marine Corps, to unveil the wall and present commemorative awards to its inaugural inductees. Established in 2026, the program honors distinguished international graduates whose leadership and achievements have strengthened their nations’ armed forces and advanced multinational partnerships.
“It was one of the most moving and unifying celebrations that I have been a part of in my entire career,” said Brig. Gen. Tracy.
The inaugural class recognized five distinguished international military leaders whose careers exemplify the enduring partnerships fostered through professional military education. Each year, additional alumni who embody these qualities will be considered for induction, ensuring the wall continues to represent MCU’s global community of military leaders.
“Our graduates hold a special place in the global pantheon of warriors," said Brig. Gen. Tracy. "Those who continue to dedicate their lives in the service of their nation and western world order should be celebrated, most especially those who have graduated from Marine Corps University.”
The inaugural class includes:
Retired Gen. Wayne Eyre, Canada —Command and Staff College Class of 2002 and School of Advanced Warfighting Class of 2003.
Retired Gen. Yasunori Morishita, Japan— 2004 Command and Staff College graduate.
Brig. Gen. Ivo Moerman, Netherlands—2013 Command and Staff College graduate and Distinguished Graduate.
Retired Brig. Ian Langford, Australia — Graduate of the Command and Staff College Class of 2009 and School of Advanced Warfighting Class of 2010.
Col. OleksiiPopovych, Ukraine (posthumous)— A 2025 Command and Staff College graduate.
The ceremony also honored Popovych’s memory and service. Following his induction, guests observed a moment of silence, and Ukraine’s defense attaché accepted the commemorative award on his behalf. Popovych was killed in action Aug. 30, 2025. His induction recognizes his service and the enduring partnership between Ukraine and the United States through professional military education.
