SMITH BARRACKS, Baumholder — Members of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command’s Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Team hosted an outreach event outside the Post Exchange on Smith Barracks in Baumholder, Germany. This marked the second community engagement initiative in recent days, reinforcing ongoing prevention and awareness efforts across the area.
Sgt. 1st Class Juhi Yadavhernandez and her team regularly lead briefings, training seminars, and interactive engagements designed to educate and empower Soldiers, Families, and Civilians within the Baumholder Military Community.
“I felt it was important to participate because these incidents are unfortunate,” said Sgt. Malaika Lukata, a human resources specialist assigned to the 16th Sustainment Brigade’s S‑1 section. “Although it’s an uncomfortable topic, it’s necessary to talk about it to bring awareness and provide a voice to those who feel unseen and unheard.”
The event—titled Chalk the Walk—invited participants to write messages of solidarity and support for survivors of sexual assault. Using bright sidewalk chalk, Soldiers and Civilians shared words of encouragement, strength, and unity, visually demonstrating the Army’s commitment to fostering a culture of dignity, respect, and trust. Many leaders took time to contribute to the cause, reflecting on the significance of the event itself.
“When you stop and think about it, there’s something profound about the idea that a 10‑cent chalk stick and a second of your time can emotionally heal someone,” said 1st Lt. Nahjier Williams, a contributor to the supportive messages displayed during the 21st TSC‑hosted SHARP community engagement event. Williams serves as a member of the 16th Sustainment Brigade’s special staff.
The SHARP Team extends its gratitude to all who participated, including the many Soldiers from the 16th Sustainment Brigade who stopped to contribute their messages of support.
