TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. — Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Twentynine Palms recognized Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Niquole Daugh V. Lorenzo as its Junior Sailor of the 3rd Quarter for 2026.
Lorenzo, a native of Union City, California, serves as an orthopedic technician at Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms, where she supports patients through the treatment and recovery of orthopedic injuries. She said the recognition is meaningful to her both personally and professionally.
“Being selected as Junior Sailor of the Quarter means a lot to me because it shows that the hard work I put into my job and the care I provide to my patients are being recognized,” Lorenzo said. “It motivates me to keep learning, growing and doing my best for the people I serve.”
For Lorenzo, one of the most rewarding aspects of serving as an orthopedic technician is seeing how her work helps patients recover and return to their everyday lives.
“The casts, splints and braces I mold for patients are almost like an extension of my own hands, supporting their injuries throughout the healing process,” Lorenzo said. “It’s rewarding to see children return to the playground, adults return to their hobbies, athletes return to training and warfighters return to duty.”
Lorenzo arrived at NMRTC Twentynine Palms in June 2024 after being named an honor graduate of orthopedic technician “C” School, earning the opportunity to select Twentynine Palms among her available duty stations. Lorenzo’s path to military service began shortly before she graduated from high school.
“Military service wasn’t originally part of the path I envisioned for myself, but the opportunity came into view just before I graduated from high school, and I decided to challenge myself and pursue something completely different,” Lorenzo said. “Becoming the first person in my family to serve has been an experience I’m proud of, and the Navy has given me opportunities to grow personally and professionally while continuing to work toward my long-term goals.”
That willingness to embrace new experiences extends beyond her Navy career.
“Outside of work, I enjoy traveling to places I have never been and trying new things,” she said.
Lorenzo said her experiences have also taught her to persevere through challenges, even when the value of the hard work may not be immediately apparent.
“There will always be moments that make you question whether the hard work is worth it, especially when you’re in the middle of it,” Lorenzo said. “But looking back, I don’t regret the challenges I’ve taken on. They’ve helped me grow and made reaching my goals that much more rewarding.”
