“The opportunity to employ the training that I’ve been doing for the last three years is always a gift,” says U.S. Army Sgt. Colby Stockton, an infantryman with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 297th Infantry Regiment, Wyoming Army National Guard, competing in the Region VI Best Warrior Competition.
Stockton joined the National Guard to serve his state and nation while continuing his family’s legacy of military service. Throughout his career, he has embraced opportunities to challenge himself and evaluate his strengths under pressure.
Through the Best Warrior Competition, Stockton hopes to identify areas for improvement while building on the skills that have helped him succeed as a Soldier. Although he enjoys the physical demands of the competition, he says one of the most rewarding aspects has been building relationships with fellow competitors from across the region and learning from some of the National Guard’s top Soldiers. Stockton works in Wyoming’s agricultural industry and takes great pride in representing his state on the regional stage, viewing the competition as an opportunity to showcase the quality of Soldiers serving in Wyoming.
"I'm the biggest Wyoming guy that you'll ever meet, so the opportunity to show off my state to other Soldiers from different states has been phenomenal."
His dedication to duty reflects his commitment to service, continuous improvement, and representing Wyoming with pride.
