“I think the challenge is what I signed up for. Sometimes in life, we can get stagnant, and it’s good to push ourselves and find out how much further we can truly go,” says U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Lonnie Sheteron, a unit supply specialist with the 95th Troop Command, Montana Army National Guard, competing in the Region VI Best Warrior Competition.

Sheteron joined the National Guard 11 years ago to serve his community, learn the Army Values, and be part of a diverse team of Soldiers. Throughout his military career, he has embraced opportunities that challenge him both mentally and physically, believing continuous growth is essential to personal and professional success.

Through the competition, he hopes to leave a better noncommissioned officer than when he arrived.

“Regardless of the standings at the end of this competition, I will leave a better NCO than I came.”

Sheteron has deployed to Afghanistan and considers his service with the Honor Guard among the most meaningful experiences of his career, providing support to families during difficult times while representing the military with professionalism and respect. He considers it an honor to represent Montana at the Region VI Best Warrior Competition and compete alongside the National Guard’s top Soldiers. His dedication to duty and selfless service reflects his commitment to serving others, developing as a leader, and always remaining ready to answer the call.
