“Meeting individuals from around the United States is my favorite part of the Best Warrior Competition,” says U.S. Army Spc. Omar Rios, Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 148th Field Artillery Regiment, Idaho Army National Guard, competing in the Region VI Best Warrior Competition.
Rios joined the National Guard to serve his community, state, and nation while maintaining a balance between military service and civilian life. Currently a college student, he credits the National Guard with helping him become a more disciplined and well-rounded individual, applying the lessons of service and responsibility to his academic and professional goals.
Through the competition, he hopes to increase his readiness and proficiency while learning from fellow competitors across the region. Rios believes that service extends beyond the uniform and values opportunities to volunteer for missions and represent the National Guard, including supporting the presidential inauguration. He enjoys learning from Soldiers from different states and exchanging experiences with competitors from across the country.
"Everybody's great in their own field, so it's awesome to learn and pick their brains while you're waiting for different events to go on."
His commitment to selfless service reflects his dedication to helping others, building connections, and continually striving to improve as a Soldier and citizen.
